Boven uw 60e levensjaar neemt de kans op deze aandoening namelijk sterk toe: 8% van alle mannen en 15% van alle vrouwen in deze leeftijdscategorie krijgt er mee te maken.<\/strong><br \/>\nDe kans dat u hierover contact opneemt met uw huisarts is echter klein: slechts de helft van alle ouderen met incontinentie zet namelijk de stap naar een medisch expert. Wanneer uw klachten zich op latere leeftijd voordoen liggen hier meestal meerdere oorzaken aan ten grondslag. Bij fysieke oorzaken kunt u denken een aandoening aan belangrijke organen zoals bijvoorbeeld de blaas, de darmen of het bekkenbodem. Afwijkingen aan het zenuwstelsel kunnen eveneens incontinentie veroorzaken. Bovendien zijn er een aantal ouderenziektes die soms gepaard gaan met incontinentie, zoals Diabetes Mellitus, Parkinson, Delier en CVA. Tijdens het ouder worden verminderen uw cognitieve vermogens, waardoor u signalen van aandrang onbedoeld kunt verwaarlozen. De consumptie van bijvoorbeeld cafe\u00efne of bepaalde medicijnen kunnen hetzelfde effect teweegbrengen.<\/p>\n<p>Tot slot kunnen ook geestelijke problemen op latere leeftijd tot incontinentieproblemen leiden.
